Van gogh in auvers exhibition
After a short stay in Cormon's workshop in late 1886, where he studied the nude and met in particular Toulouse-Lautrec and Bernard, he decided to work alone.
His style matured quickly towards impressionism and neo-impressionism, with a clear influence of "japonism".
In a very close geographic area (Asnières, Clichy, the Butte Montmartre and its cafés), van Gogh found motifs in harmony with his artistic aspirations. If his turning from dark colours to lighter ones is clear, he nevertheless avoided becoming a disciple of a "school" and proceeded quickly in the elaboration of his own pictorial language.
This exhibition was an occasion to oppose Vicent Van Gogh's Parisian works to those of the principal masters of the avant-garde of the time.
It featured more than fifty paintings and a dozen drawings by Van Gogh as well as about fifty pieces by other artists who were closely related
